Body Worlds 4 Exhibition - a real talking point

07th April 2008

Visitors to the Body Worlds 4 exhibition have found it educational, informative and thought provoking.

Whilst the thought of seeing preserved human bodies, some of which are diseased might initially seem shocking, visitors to the Body Worlds 4 Exhibition have been amazed as they have been able to examine close-up the human body’s role in everyday activities

Body Worlds 4, presents over 200 examples of preserved human bodies and body parts and  provides visitors to the exhibition with an unprecedented encounter with the human body in its post mortal state.

In addition to the main exhibition there is also a programme of lectures, workshops and school classroom activities, which will explore the issues surrounding Body Worlds, such as healthy, living,  anatomy  and the ethics of Plastination.

Plastination is the process used to create the exhibits and was invented in 1977 by the controversial German anatomist Gunther von Hagens. Plastination halts the composition of the body by extracting all bodily fluids and soluable fat and replacing them with vacuum forced impregnation with reactive resins and elastometers, such as rubber, silicon and epoxy. The specimen is then cured with light, heat or certain gases, which give it rigidity and permanence.

Body Worlds was originally launched in Tokyo in 1995 and has proved so popular that Body Worlds exhibitions have been hosted in 45 cities across Europe, Asia and North America have attracted in excess of 25 million visitors.

If you are planning a corporate event in Manchester sometime between now and the end of June then the Museum of Science and Industry hires out their unique exhibition halls for evening functions and the cost of entry to the Body Worlds 4 exhibition is included in the venue hire fee.

The UK premier of the Body Worlds 4 exhibition is being held at the Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester from now until 29th June 2008.  Adult tickets cost £10-£11.50, concessions £7-9.50 while under 5s go free.

Other events at The Museum of Science and Industry include a Fantastic Comedy Night on 18th May 2008 and Open Your Mind, a series of stimulating debates on various topics running from now until 24th June 2008.
