BBC Gardener ' World Live 2008

29th March 2008

Green-fingered fans of the BBC Gardeners'  World will be pleased to know that the TV programme’s hugely enjoyable live show is returning to Birmingham’s National Exhibition Centre in June.

Now in its sixteenth year, BBC Gardeners’ World Live 2008 promises to be bigger and better than ever. The show gardens, which are always a highlight of the event, promise to be creative, as well as blooming. This year’s themes range from The Good Life and a Roccoco Fantasy, to the annual Wildebeest migration in Nairobi.

If looking at the show gardens makes you work up an appetite, you’ll find the Dining Experience handily situated nearby. The Dining Experience serves tasty food from the finest local restaurants, which you can enjoy while listening to some first-class musical entertainment.

The Celebrity Theatre will also be a source of much entertainment for visitors, particularly as you’ll get to see top gardeners such as Monty Don, Alan Titchmarsh, Joe Swift and Pippa Greenwood do some great demonstrations, while offering the crowd help and advice.  Joining these gardeners will be Ben Fogle and John Craven from Countryfile, who will be sharing memories from 20 years of the popular programme. Please note that, as seats for the Celebrity Theatre tend to sell out quickly, you should book your seats now to avoid disappointment.

The RHS Floral Marquee will see around 100 nurseries compete against each other in the hope of winning a coveted Royal Horticultural Society medal for their arrangements. Adding to this will be new floristry section, which will offer visitors the chance to see some great displays, as well as admire the beautiful Orchid area.

If you’re interesting in growing your own, there will be a Grow Your Own Theatre, which will feature some great demonstrations, as well as help and advice for producing great-tasting fruit, vegetables and herbs in your own garden. There is also a Sustainable Future Feature, which offers some valuable tips on going green, including how to save water in your garden.

If the show inspires you to overhaul your own garden, you’ll find ample shopping opportunities at the event. The Gardeners’ Lanes and Gardeners’ Market offer a great opportunity to buy some unusual gifts, gadgets and accessories for gardeners. You’ll also find some wonderful plants, trees and shrubs for sale at the event, which can’t fail to spice up your garden.

If you’re a fan of the TV show, you’ll be able to see all of your favourite Gardeners'  World presenters on the 11th and 12th June, as they’ll be filming a one hour special at the event. This will be airing on Friday 13th June, so why not try and spot yourself on television?
